I often have debates with people (both left and right) who telling me how bad government services are , their idea of reform is to change the manger ie politicians , but the reality whoever is in charge they seem to cost more and we get less in return. But yet we have the the same ol’ troupes “vote for me I’ll make it more efficient” ,Vs “vote for me I’ll give department X more money”.
I’m not sure why we don’t ask more fundamental questions like do we even need to be the business not providing this service in the first place, could this be something better done by another organisation it could be such as charity, local authority or mutual society. But once the government gets involved it tends to crowd out this civic organizations.
